Prohibition

Alcohol prohibition didn’t work. It made things worse.

Drug prohibition doesn’t work. It makes things worse. We can’t even keep drugs out of our prisons.

Gun prohibition (including so-called reasonable regulations) also doesn’t work. Please notice that the murder rate has fallen while gun ownership has risen. Please notice that all massacres happen in so-called gun free zones, or in areas where armed innocents cannot shoot back (such as with the Vegas massacre). Finally, please notice that nations with gun prohibition still have gun violence, but they also have higher rates of aggression using other weapons. It will be of no benefit to anyone if crazies stop using guns and start throwing bombs into crowds, or using homemade flamethrowers.

People prohibition doesn’t work either. Ten-foot walls lead to eleven-foot ladders. People will also enter the country by digging tunnels, bribing guards, or landing on our beaches, or by failing to return home after their visas expire. We cannot keep people out of our country for the same reason we can’t keep drugs out of our prisons.

Those are the practical arguments against various forms of prohibition. There’s also a legal argument. The Constitution limits government powers. You have a delegated power to control naturalization, but NOT to control immigration. Immigration controls violate both the 9th and 10th Amendments.

There’s also a moral argument to be made against all forms of prohibition -- none of the stuff you want to prohibit is any of your business. It’s morally wrong to use State aggression to impose things on peaceful people against their will. Individual conscience must rule in all things.

Please take immediate steps to repeal all prohibition “laws” and regulations.
