A big endorsment for Downsize DC and RTBA on LewRockwell.com

Please check out the column by Jim Cox on the highly popular LewRockwell.com. The main thrust of Cox’s column is to criticize the Fair Tax, but he ends with some exciting comments about us (read on to see them).

Personally, I think there are a lot of things to like about the Fair Tax, such as eliminating the income tax and all of the compliance burdens that come with it. Talk about Downsizing DC! But the big flaw as far as I can see is that the current Fair Tax proposal doesn’t require the repeal of the 16th Ammendment before the new national sales tax is implemented. I think this flaw makes it inevitable that we would end up with both a sales tax and an income tax eventually. I don’t consider this just a possible outcome, or even just a likely on. I consider it absolutely inevitable. So the Fair Tax, as it’s currently constructed, is a poison pill that would actually leave us with a bigger burden in the long run. I sincerely hope the Fair Tax proponents fix this problem before they go any further with it. If you’re interested in the Fair Tax, you can learn more about it here.

But what’s most significant about Cox’s article, from my humble perspective, is that the Read the Bills Act (RTBA) makes a list of positive recommendations for policies to pursue instead of the Fair Tax. You see, Cox didn’t want to be accused of just shooting down an idea. He wanted to demonstrate that there were better paths to follow. RTBA is one of the things he recommends. Here’s part of what Cox wrote

:

“The Read the Bills Act is a piece of legislation deserving of support; but this hoopla over the FairTax helps to keep people from knowing about it.”

This is yet another instance of unsolicited coverage. It’s another sign that the RTBA “rocket” is “taking off.”

Thank you Jim Cox!
