August will be different

Today’s Downsizer-Dispatch…
The House of Representatives is out of session. The Senate is about to leave town. August is a month where they go on “recess.” Boy, one wishes every month was August.

So, these Downsizer-Dispatch messages are going to be different from the usual fare. We won’t be sending you too many action items (I doubt there will be more than two or three such messages for the entire month).

Instead, we’re going to talk about the future.

1) We’re going to share our vision — talk about how we view the world and what we need to do. During the last August recess, we gave you some “plain talk” on a couple of issues. My column from last year, “Charging rent for stolen property,” was quite popular on the Internet. It was something of a manifesto where we explained the sociopathic behavior of successful politicians. Plain talk is easily understood and tends to spread all over the Net. Expect to see more of that this month.

2) We’re going to promote our Delegate Parties (formerly known as Meetup groups). Yes, we’re renaming them, and we’re going to do some things to promote the creation of new parties and build-up existing ones. This is vitally important to passing the Read the Bills Act. Once we have 1,000 people from these parties, committed to coming to our No Legislation Without Representation conference and the Capitol Hill Invasion, we’ll announce a date and location for these important events.

3) We’re going to fundraise for that vision. THIS IS CRUCIAL and so, we will be doing this almost constantly. We need consistent and predictable income of $168,000 over a 12 month period ($14,000 per month). Presently, we have $42,480 ($3,540 per month).

I don’t want to be Pollyanna, but September could be the greatest month in our entire history and October could be even better if we could raise even 75% of the annual fund and set-up Delegate Parties in a majority of Congressional districts by the time August is over. If those two things happened, I have very little doubt that before we rang in the New Year, we’d have a date and location for our conference and invasion.

That’s a tall order, and will be very difficult to achieve. But boy, it would be great if we could do it. In fact, I’m eager to reach the fundraising goal as soon as possible.

We’re going to push hard because…

Some Congressional bills are “as tall as a man.” There’s no way they could be read by a member of Congress. Some bills are stuffed full of pork and popular proposals have been combined with unpopular proposals in a tactic called “logrolling.” When we achieve our goal of $14,000 per month in pledged income, we’re going to celebrate by rolling-out our newest piece of legislation — a bill requiring Congress to vote on one subject at a time.

And if you are one of those monthly credit card pledgers, or you make a contribution of $76 or more during August, we’ll include your name in a roster of “Legislative Sponsors.”

You can get on that roster with a credit card micro-plege of $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, or $9. If you can afford it, please consider making a monthly credit card pledge of $10, $15, $25, $35, or $50. Back in May, we lost our largest monthly pledger who was pledging $250 per month. It would be fantastic if we could replace him!

Please, help us raise the $14,000 we need this month. AND, please help us with a credit card pledge to make our $14,000 goal every single month.

Thank you for your support,
