Bills Passed in Congress, August 2014

The following are the bills the House and Senate passed last month. The bills were passed by voice vote except where indicated. Roll call votes for the House are found here, and for the Senate here. The descriptions of bills are essentially taken verbatim from the Congressional Record Daily Digest (Index).

SENATE 7 bills, 28 pages

Money Remittances Improvement Act: Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs was discharged from further consideration of H.R. 4386, to allow the Secretary of the Treasury to rely on State examinations for certain financial institutions, and the bill was then passed. 4 pages 

Emergency Afghan Allies Extension Act: Senate passed H.R. 5195, to provide additional visas for the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Program. 4 pages

Specialist Christopher Scott Post Office Building: Senate passed H.R. 606, to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 815 County Road 23 in Tyrone, New York, as the “Specialist Christopher Scott Post Office Building''. 4 pages

James `Jim' Kohnen Post Office: Senate passed H.R. 1671, to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 6937 Village Parkway in Dublin, California, as the “James `Jim' Kohnen Post Office''. 4 pages
