More evidence drug prohibition must die

Recent stupid moves by the FDA and the DEA highlight the need to END Drug Prohibition. The sample letter to Congress below explains the details.

If you agree with us that drug prohibition must end, please send Congress a letter. The hardwired message to Congress for this campaign reads simply…

End Drug Prohibition.

You can copy or edit the following sample text to create your own letter to your elected reps…

It’s abundantly clear that my so-called government can’t be trusted to behave sanely on this issue. It must be taken out of your hands completely. Two recent aggressions against the American people by Executive Branch agencies highlight the case.

First, the DEA recently decided to keep marijuana on Schedule 1. You can read the story here in case you missed it — http://bit.ly/2c8R3Pg

This means the “geniuses” at the DEA still think pot is as dangerous as heroin. It also means that the DEA believes marijuana has no medical use, in spite of the fact that thousands of qualified doctors are prescribing it all over America. Some of those doctors speak on the matter in this Scientific American article — http://bit.ly/2c8RFEG

Keeping marijuana on Schedule 1 also means that the DEA sees it as a substance of widespread abuse. Dr. Nathaniel B. Morris, writing in Scientific American, begs to differ — http://bit.ly/2c8SIEP

Second, both the FDA and the DEA have taken steps to ban the herbal supplement kratom. What? You say you’ve never heard of it? Perhaps that’s because THERE’S NEVER BEEN ANY PROBLEM WITH IT! Quite the contrary…

Kratom seems like it might actually be the solution to a number of issues, including various forms of drug addiction and chronic pain. Best of all…

It can perform the pain-killing work of morphine without dangerously depressing breathing — the way opioids do. There may be some addiction risk, but it appears the addiction can be broken easily without withdrawal symptoms. Meanwhile, the painkillers currently being used are both highly addictive, dangerous, and hard to kick. Yet…

The FDA and DEA both want to ban kratom, and effectively kill research to further develop this substance.

— You can read about how kratom works here — http://bit.ly/2c8UTI6
— And what a lead researcher says about it here — http://bit.ly/2c8SI7v

As I consider these boneheaded actions by the FDA and DEA I’m forced to wonder — WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE SMOKING?

Please be clear about this. I do NOT trust you to dictate which substances Americans can and cannot use. I want you OUT of this business. END DRUG PROHIBITION NOW!

–END OF SAMPLE LETTER TO CONGRESS–
