Coalition action

Please share with concerned friends . . .

Quote of the Day:

As Americans we must always remember that we all have a common enemy, an enemy that is dangerous, powerful and relentless. I refer, of course, to the federal government. — Dave Barry

Subject: Coalition action on Whistleblower legislation

The federal government is often your enemy. The Whistleblower is your friend. The federal government ignores the law and the Constitution. The Whistleblower sounds the alarm.

Without federal employees who are willing to alert the public about government criminality, much evil that is done to us would never be exposed.

We need more whistleblowing by federal employees. S. 274 is designed to protect federal whistleblowers from retaliation by their bosses. A version of this bill has already passed in the House. Now we need to get it passed in the Senate.

And we can do this, if we’re diligent.

DownsizeDC.org has joined with the Whistleblower coalition to sign a letter that went to the Senate this morning. This letter was requested by Senator Akaka and will be distributed to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs when it meets today to mark-up S. 274.

[And we just learned, as we were preparing this message, that S. 274 sailed through committee markup.]

The point of the letter (attached below) is to show that . . .

The public overwhelmingly supports whistleblower protection legislation, according to several studies.

Our mission for today is to back-up this letter by bombarding the Senate with requests to pass S. 274.

The coalition won this fight in the House. We have friends in the Senate. We can win there too. Let’s do our part. Send your message to the Senate.

Also, there are just three days left to get your name included on the website roster for the “One Subject at a Time Act.” Please don’t miss out.

The minimum contribution to be listed is a $5 monthly pledge, or a $60 one time contribution. Contribute more if you can because the names will be listed by the size of the contribution.

You can make your contribution here.

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer.
