Downsize DC Conference Call – January 7, 2007

Today (Sunday), I have a special guest HOST for my show: Ian Bernard, host of Free Talk Live. I have been having a busy family weekend with special activities involving two of my children. Ian has graciously agreed to fill-in for me.

But I don’t want him to be alone. Please, swamp him with calls and emails. The phone number for the show is 1-800-259-9231. Ian will probably give out an email address during the show.

“The Downsize DC Conference Call” (radio show) is sponsored by DownsizeDC.org, the Marijuana Policy Project, and Gun Owners of America. Ian will have updates and information from/about each group.

The one-hour show airs at 4:06 PM Eastern (3:06 PM Central, 2:06 PM Mountain, and 1:06 PM Pacific) and can be heard at www.GCNLive.com/listen.

Now, if you’ve been on this list for more than a couple of months you know that Free Talk Live promotes DownsizeDC.org. We have a great promotional partnership, and the hosts, Ian and Mark, not only are DC Downsizers who regularly send messages, but they also talk about DownsizeDC.org, even when I’m not a guest.

Earlier this week, Ian informed me of a new opportunity to promote Free Talk Live, and, by extention, DownsizeDC.org, using Digg.com. You may already be aware of this site. Alexa ranks it in the top 100 internet sites.

Less than two weeks ago Digg.com started a fairly prominent podcast section on their site. Digg’s concept is simple and brilliant. Users of the site “digg” news items, or in this case podcasts, that they enjoy. The more “diggs” one gets, the more prominent their position on Digg.com.

At Ian Bernard’s insistence, I’ve tried Digg myself, and I’m convinced this is a good opportunity for both our partners at Free Talk Live and for us at DownsizeDC.org.

As of right now, Free Talk Live is approaching 300 diggs. I’m one of those Diggs. But they’ll need over 2,000 diggs to make it to the front page. Can you help get them there?

The good news is that diggs are permanent. DC Downsizers, if you digg Free Talk once, you’re done. There will be no coming back next month to do it again (unless they change their system).

The only trick is that if you want to help, you WILL have to sign up for a free digg account to participate.

Now, your registration at Digg.com may provide some long-term benefit to DownsizeDC.org as well. We’re planning on using the resources of several sites, including Digg.com, to vault DownsizeDC.org to a whole new level of prominence. Details are coming SOON. So it would be a real big plus to have a bunch of DC Downsizers be registered “Diggers” even before we launch these new initiatives.

We have simple instructions for first time users, here. If you’re already a “digger,” skip to Step 3. But either way, please act now.

1. If you’re not already registered for Digg, you can get an account here: http://digg.com/register  Then, once you’re confirmed…

2. If you need to re-login to your Digg account, you can do so here: http://digg.com/login

3. Once you’re logged-in go to: http://digg.freetalklive.com

4. Click the “Digg It” to the left of the Free Talk Live show icon.

That’s all there is to it.

And don’t forget to enjoy (and call into) today’s show!
