Mother Jones is an old magazine, now online. It’s made up of people whose particular version of Utopianism is that government should be beating swords into plowshares, as well as pounding you and me into becoming good servants of a leftist State.
On their site, you can order a T-shirt, coffee mug, or bumper-sticker that says, “Make Levees, Not War.” It’s an amazing slogan. One can only imagine the policy implications. For example, Kansas congressmen vying for levee dollars. Here a levee, everywhere a levee.
Big Government doesn’t work. Remember, it wasn’t Katrina that destroyed New Orleans. The folks there thought they had weathered another storm after Katrina had already passed through. New Orleans was destroyed by a flood. The levee failed. IT WAS A GOVERNMENT LEVEE – Hello!
Here’s a better T-shirt idea: “Make Freedom, Not Programs.” On second thought, we really need to get some shirts available that simply say, “Downsize DC.”
Oh, and while we’re at it, say no to the “new New Deal” — the federal government program to build a city and a levee and so much more.
