Human Progress: Transgenic chickens could help prevent the spread of bird flu

Via Scientific American:

Chickens are a major part of the human food supply. This means they’re also a major pathway for spreading the bird flu to human populations. Now, a new study reported in Science reports on a chicken gene that prevents the flu from spreading. Better yet, it appears that this gene will work against all types of flu, continuously. Include this gene in all food chickens and we will have removed chickens as a risk factor for creating a global pandemic!

Remember, life in the past was nasty, brutish, and short. Life is vastly better today than it was even 30 years ago, and it just keeps getting better with every passing day, by almost every measure. Pay attention to the good news too!
