Look what you won in January

Wow, you made some real progress in January. On Christmas Day, politically, things looked bleak. I told you, “The fight ends when we say it does.”

You stayed in the fight. The result?

January was a month of victories. Look at how things changed in your favor in just the last few weeks . . .

* The cancerous healthcare bill is dead
* President Obama has felt the need to start talking about cutting (some) spending (in his State of the Union speech)
* And your team won a major victory for free competitive elections — the freedoms of speech, press, and association in the Supreme Court’s decision on the Citizens United case, for which you, DC Downsizers, funded an important brief

We’ll have a lot more to say about the Citizens United case. For now, congratulations on the role you played in all of these positive developments.

We’re also pleased to announce that we exceeded our goal for new monthly pledges in January. Our goal was a mere $180, and we actually raised $395. This pledge support will give us reliable income throughout the course of the year. Thank you to everyone who started a new monthly pledge.

But we still need to raise $3,853 in additional 1-time donations to meet our budget and keep all of our new projects on track. Remember, we’re working on new software tools that will empower you to pressure or sway . . .

* The media, both nationally, and in your own community
* The candidates who are challenging the incumbents who currently represent you
* Your local congressional offices (not just their far-off Washington, DC offices)
* Your state legislatures, in a way that will cause them to also exert pressure on Congress
* Other taxpayers, in a way that will allow you to track the results of your own personal efforts

You’ll be able to do all of these things with just a few mouse clicks and keyboard strokes, just as you currently do for Congress. You’ll love these new tools. But the speed with which we deliver these powerful new tools depends ENTIRELY on the rate at which we can buy programming time.

In fact, we’ve already begun our investment. I don’t want to pull back. I’m counting on you.

We would have a much better chance of making the goal if there was a $2,000 or $1,000 donation made this weekend. But amounts of $500, $200, $100, $76, $35 — amounts of every size — are needed too.

Please help us meet our goal by making a generous contribution today.

Today is the deadline for making our January budget. Please help.

Thank you,

Jim Babka
