DownsizeDC.org is part of a coalition of 35 organizations supporting Senate bill S. 3717, which will remove certain exemptions recently added to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
In light of the financial meltdown and related federal government blunders of the past two years, there should be MORE government transparency, not less.
The recently-enacted Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act modifies the FOIA by shielding the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from providing certain records. This hinders the public’s right to know critical information related to the oversight functions of the SEC. S. 3717 will remove these exemptions while still protecting confidential business records.
