Medical Marijuana: What is Obama Thinking?

Quote of the Day: “Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could.” – William F. Buckley, Jr.

What is Obama thinking?

He has ratcheted up the War on Medical Marijuana, breaking his earlier promises.

Why? How does this make him more popular? From whom does he think he’ll gain votes?

Whatever his reasons, I’m fed up.

There is a bill, Barney Frank’s HR 1983, which would end Obama’s abuses.

Please join me in telling Congress to pass HR 1983 using DownsizeDC.org’s End Drug Prohibition campaign.

You may borrow from or copy this letter…

Instead of keeping his early promises to end medical marijuana raids in states where it’s legal, President Obama’s record has been worse than George W. Bush’s. He’s even denying medical marijuana patients the right to keep and bear arms!  (http://bit.ly/qwNAjo)

And I can’t help but wonder if his Administration is targeting marijuana activists.

For instance, Richard Lee is an activist who spearheaded California’s Prop 19, a marijuana legalization bill which was narrowly defeated by California voters in 2010. And then earlier this month, agents from the IRS, DEA, and U.S. Marshals raided Lee’s apartment and Oaksterdam University, which he founded. Oaksterdam teaches medical marijuana practices, entrepreneurship, and activism.

Was this retaliation? Will federal laws be used to destroy the lives of OTHER critics of Administration policies?

And why, in this age of monstrous deficits, is Obama wasting resources attacking medical marijuana users and their providers?

Far from upholding “federal law,” these raids are unconstitutional…

* Federal laws are “supreme” ONLY if they are “in pursuance of” – in accordance with – the Constitution. (http://blog.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2012/04/a-question-of-supremacy/)
* Commerce WITHIN individual states is NOT subject to the powers of Congress under the Commerce Clause, or any other section of the Constitution.
* Therefore, purchasing medical marijuana from a neighbor is an activity PROTECTED by the 9th and 10th Amendments.

Repealing ALL drug laws is the right thing to do. It is not the federal government’s business what Americans decide to ingest.

But you can begin by passing HR 1983, the States’ Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act. It protects patients in states where medical marijuana is LEGAL.

Be aware that 8 in 10 Americans favor legalizing medical marijuana. (http://abcn.ws/J4qeHc). Whether you are Democrat or Republican, you have nothing to lose, and some votes to gain, by legalizing medical marijuana.

DO IT!
