Action Item: Send a message to Congress encouraging them to continue doing NOTHING to extend the Patriot Act. If Congress does NOTHING then some of the worst aspects of the Patriot Act will sunset, and be no more. We have a chance to win this one. Encourage Congress to do the right thing, which is NOTHING. Commentary: The Founders gave us a system of checks-and-balances designed to foster gridlock. They knew that politicians were more likely to do bad things rather than good things, so they created a system that biased politicians toward doing NOTHING. Sadly, this system of institutionalized gridlock has broken down over the years, but it’s suddenly come back to life with the Patriot Act. This is good news! We must encourage this.
