Pressure works

Quote of the Day:
“The mystery of government is not how Washington works, but how to make it stop.”

Subject: Pressure works!

Americans subjected Congress to relentless, overwhelming, resistance numbing pressure. Congress caved. 95 Democrats and 133 Republicans voted to defeat the Big Bailout.

The Downsize DC strategic vision is now conclusively demonstrated. Members of Congress had many, huge incentives to pass the bailout. But public pressure overwhelmed those incentives.

The same thing could happen on other issues, especially those that have wide public support, like the “Read the Bills Act,” and the “One Subject at a Time Act.” All we need is a huge army to apply the relentless, overwhelming, resistance numbing pressure.

The mystery of how to make the government stop has been solved. Pressure is the answer.

We would humbly submit that we all need to stop spending so much time, money, and energy trying to elect the “right” people. It hasn’t worked. It will never work. The people you elect will always disappoint you. They will always be the WRONG people, UNLESS you have a huge army to apply the pressure to make them do the right thing.

It’s really that simple.

Now, we’ve won a battle — our 14th victory — but that doesn’t mean we’ve won the war. The Bailout Brigade will make another attempt, so we must continue to fight. We must . . .

  • Thank those who voted against the bailout, and . . .
  • Spank those who voted for it

Below my signature you’ll find a list of how the House voted on the bailout. If your Representative voted no, send a message of thanks. If he or she voted yes, send a message of disappointment. Tell him or her you want a “no” vote if another bailout package comes to the floor. You can send your message using our free Educate the Powerful System.

Second, we must fight the temptation to panic. Instead, we must face reality. The bursting of the government created housing bubble is costing our economy lots of money and lots of disruption. It will take time to purge the mal-investments. As a result . . .

The stock market will continue its wild swings. Business failures will continue. Foreclosures will continue. Unemployment will probably rise. But these things are the CURE, not the disease.

The disease was caused by the incentives the government provided for people to buy houses they couldn’t afford, and for lenders to fund those loans. Bailouts will spread this disease, NOT cure it. Losses are losses, and they cannot be wished away. They can only be compounded by throwing good money after bad, or they can be purged by allowing prices to find their REAL level as quickly as possible.

The purge is already well advanced. It must continue. It’s the quickest path to renewed economic growth. All bailout proposals, on the other hand, are simply the economic equivalent of the Iraq war and the PATRIOT Act. Do not succumb to the exaggerated panic and fear mongering.

Finally, we are at the end of the month. We only need to raise $252 today in order to make budget for September. Are you excited by this victory? …this proof of concept for the Downsize DC Vision? We would like to send you a copy of our 16 page, color report, “The Downsize DC Vision.” All you need to do to receive it is make a contribution to help cover this small amount. Your contribution is our budget. Contribute here.

And don’t forget to thank or spank your Representative. Check to see how he or she voted below my signature.

Remember, pressure works. And all we need to make it work more is a bigger army of DC Downsizers. Thank you for being a part of that growing army.
