Slow down, Congress

Today’s Downsizer-Dispatch . . .

Happy New Year! In this issue

:* An important action item
* Babka on the radio and Internet tonight

You are Downsize DC. Without you, nothing would be accomplished. So we want to congratulate you on a very successful 2006.

But we have absolutely no time to rest on our laurels. Zero.

The battle resumes now.

A new Congress begins tomorrow. The Republic is in grave danger because the new leadership wants to make up for twelve years out of power. They’re promising five day work weeks instead of four. And they’re scheduling no extended breaks until August.

Worst of all, they’re kicking it all off with a 100-hour ORGY of legislation — seven or eight bills, totaling nearly 400 pages of dense legalese filled with new boondoggles, more regulations, and increased spending. Little or no time will be provided to debate these bills, and virtually no time will be allotted to actually reading and studying them.

Of course, we believe Congress should slow down long enough to “Read the Bills.”

But there’s no way a new Congress can read, understand, and debate so much legislation so quickly. The 100-HR Orgy really means the Democrats are about to prove that they can be just as irresponsible as the Republicans.

Speaker Pelosi and the new Democratic Majority need to SLOW DOWN. You can urge them to do so HERE.

Tomorrow, we’ll be back with an extremely urgent action item as Congress considered imposing expensive regulations on

Each month, we send out a message from fellow DC Downsizer and nationally syndicated radio host Ian Bernard of Free Talk Live urging you to vote in the podcast battles. Why? Free Talk Live is a big supporter of Downsize DC.

In fact, Downsize DC President Jim Babka will BE APPEARING ON HIS SHOW TONIGHT AT 7:30 pm Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, and 4:30 PM Pacific).

2006 was good for Free Talk Live and the show is on more stations than ever. You can check the station list, listen live online, or listen later via FREE archive at

Tonight’s topics will be the 100-HR Orgy, Grassroots Lobbying Reform, and my February appearances in Concord, New Hampshire at the Free State Project event, where I’ll be giving a speech and appearing on a panel with Ian Bernard! So you can come and meet both of us. Check out the event HERE.

You can tell them Downsize DC sent you and get a 5% discount off of your registration by using this code: DOWNDC

Now, here’s this month’s message requesting your vote. It’s simple. It’s free. It helps promote Downsize DC . . .

DC Downsizers,

We at Free Talk Live finished the year with a record total of votes in the online podcast popularity poll, thanks to you. We got over 1,100 in December alone! Unfortunately the Harry Potter podcast got over 1,900, and we finished 4th. We can finish January at number one, if you will vote again and ask a friend to do the same.

Vote easily and securely at It takes only a moment and is a real investment in spreading the word about Downsize DC and the case for a smaller federal government!

Thanks for your help,
Ian Bernard
DC Downsizer and Host of Free Talk Live

That’s it for today. But get ready for a very busy two to three weeks, because Congress is coming back in stampede fashion.

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer!
