Stop funding for REAL ID

Today’s Downsizer Dispatch . . .

Quote of the Day:

“It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.”
— Jonathan Swift

Subject: Stop funding for REAL ID

UPDATE: We didn’t win on the medical marijuana amendment, but we made more progress. The amendment garnered 165 votes — two more than last year.

The problem remains the Republicans who want to continue to look tough on drugs to their base. Frankly, if you asked these Republican politicians what they think about this issue in private, you would probably hear something the exact opposite of how they voted.

We need to give these Republican politicians cover to change their votes by exerting more pressure over the months ahead. They need to know that large numbers of their constituents would support a yes vote on this amendment.

Pressure, more than reason, will do the trick. The needed pressure should be possible because public opinion is with us on this issue.

Meanwhile . . .

State governments are revolting against the REAL ID Act. Big Brother politicians on Capitol Hill are responding to this resistance by trying to bribe the states with your tax money.

Lamar Alexander is promoting an amendment to the Homeland Security appropriations bill that would pay the states to implement REAL ID. This amendment must be defeated.

Send a message to Congress opposing REAL ID. Use your personal comments to specifically oppose the Alexander amendment, SA 2405. Tell them you want ZERO federal funding to the states to implement REAL ID.

You can send your message here.

In other news, Jim Babka will be interviewing Kent Snyder of Ron Paul for President on his radio show on Sunday. Tune in. Details will be sent out Sunday morning.

Finally, we made budget for July. Hooray! More momentum! Now let’s get a head start on August. If you can help us do that we’ll mail a “9/11: Press for Truth” DVD to your home. Here’s how to get one . . .

If you’re an existing monthly credit card pledger in good standing as of June 15, 2007, all you have to do is increase your monthly pledge by at least $1, and we’ll send one to you.

If you’re NOT an EXISTING monthly credit card pledger then you can start a monthly credit card pledge of at least $6, or make a one-time credit card donation of $35 or more, and we’ll send you the DVD. (Sorry, for technical reasons we cannot make this offer for PayPal pledges or donations).

You can make your contribution here.

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer.
