The Read the Bills buzz

During my trip to California in late January, one of the people I met with told me that the Read the Bills Act (RTBA) was mentioned during a FoxNews show the previous Sunday night — he thought between 10 and 11 PM (Pacific).

Today, one of our new Downsize DC staffers told me that her mother had heard the RTBA mentioned on the 700 Club — Pat Robertson’s TV show. She was uncertain of the time, but was going to check next time she spoke with her Mom.

These are “unconfirmed citings” as of now. But there’s a buzz out there, that’s for sure.

We’ve heard additional bits of buzz. Several Congressmen are starting to support a proposal for posting the bills on the Internet 72 hours before a vote. That proposal doesn’t do some of the most important things you’ll find in the RTBA, but the pressure of DC Downsizers is certainly contributing to the need for Congress to “do something.”

What they offer to do will be the minimum they believe they need to get the demand to go away. We must, if we want to succeed, not only maintain the pressure on, but find new and innovative ways to constantly increase it.

We have a grassroots strategy…

  • In several days, RTBA Meetup groups will begin. There are 435 Congressional districts nationwide. We need to find less than an average of three people in each district who will commit to coming to Washington, to invade Congress, in order to schedule this event; five per district would make it a smashing success.

We have a media strategy…

  • We’re about to reveal an important part of our media strategy which will make it so RTBA is discussed in a variety of media, even when I’m not there to be interviewed.

With your help, we’re going to keep building the pressure. Congress will submit. They are, after all, our servants. And the DownsizeDC.org plan will not only remind them of that fact, but also force them to accept it.
