Use the lever

Today’s Downsizer Dispatch . . .

Subject: Use the lever

A generous donor seeks to leverage his contributions. That means you can help. Every dollar you give to DownsizeDC.org right now could be worth $2!

Each month, DownsizeDC.org seeks to raise $15,000 so that we can keep making forward progress. We’ve made no secret of the fact that many of our donors have been very excited about a particular political campaign. We understand. But as a result, in October, we missed budget by about $3,500. Ouch! In November, we almost made it, but still fell short by almost $600.

That’s why I’m so grateful to a donor who gave us $2,000 to get this month started.

On top of that, he’s challenging DC Downsizers to match another $3,000.

That’s $5,000 from one donor! Let me break this down . . .

Right now, we believe we have $7,150 in monthly pledges, from individuals, ranging from $3 to $200 per month.

And, even though it’s already the 12th of the month, and this is our first fundraising appeal, we’ve received $427 thus far in December (3/4ths of that in new pledges!). And since that generous donor has given us leverage with a $3,000 matching pledge, those donations are worth an additional $427, or $854!

$2,000 from a generous donor
+$7,100 in ANTICIPATED pledges
+ $ 854 in contributions

=$9,954 is already in the door!

The matching pledge now has a balance of $2,573. Every dollar YOU contribute, up to that $2,573 will be matched with an additional dollar. Therefore, every dollar you contribute will be worth $2!

And if you join us as a contributor or increase your monthly pledge, we’ll send you our cutting edge 16-page report, “The Downsize DC Vision.”

And, if we can match all of these dollars, we’ll make budget — in fact, we’ll exceed it by $100!

Imagine, your $100 contribution would be worth $200. Your $35 contribution would be worth $70.

Please, join us now.

One final thought: We thought 2007 might be our break-through year. But 2007 has become largely about preparing for 2008. And there are some things being put in place, and other possibilities being offered to us that, oh boy, I wish I could get into right now. 2008 will be our biggest year yet. In fact, like the old song says, “The future’s so bright, we’ve gotta wear shades.”

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer,
