We Interrupt Your Holiday Shopping Spree

Quote of the Day: “You can’t save the world if you can’t pay the rent.” – Morton Blackwell

Subj: We interrupt your holiday shopping spree to bring you this important message.

This month we have focused on funding the entire operating budget for 2009.

We believe our “Close the Gap” campaign will enable us to have a real breakout year. After two years of Presidential campaigns, we’re quite excited about the prospect of no longer worrying about monthly budgets. We’re thrilled by the ability to begin real, direct-marketing outreach that should accelerate our growth.

But we focused on this “Close the Gap” project at the expense of present needs. Here’s our situation. We still need to raise $4,902 THIS month.

All new donors get a copy of the Downsize DC Vision.

And as we explain on the “Close the Gap” page, both new and upgraded monthly pledgers, as well as one-time donors, can get the “I Am Not Afraid” T-shirt. You can see the T-shirt, and the list of sizes, on the “Close the Gap” page!

Obviously, we still want to finish the “Close the Gap” campaign. Sooner is better than later.

Larger Top Down pledges of $1,000, $2,500, $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000 that don’t need to be fulfilled until we’ve secured all the necessary financing to “Close the Gap” are still highly encouraged.

So to are Bottom Up monthly pledges of $3, $5, $8, $15, $25, $35, and more are greatly appreciated.

But Morton Blackwell is quite right. We really cannot afford a nearly $5,000 deficit this month.
Therefore, through midnight December 1, we’re making a special offer. Every one-time donation of $60 or more qualifies for the T-shirt (normally $76) — please specify your shirt size in the comments.

On the other hand, if we miss the budget, we’re going to need to cut back a bit so we can catch-up. To begin with, Congress is coming back to consider bailouts and stimulus plans. But we’ll have to hold off on some Dispatches, which spur action — our only hope for slowing Capitol Hill down.

It’s a choice that makes itself. More action and a fantastic T-shirt. Less action and your same old boring shirts. This might be the best shopping choice you make all weekend.

THANK you for being a DC Downsizer,

Jim Babka
