We’re off to a roaring start

Quote of the Day: “The ground of liberty must be gained by inches.” — Thomas Jefferson (Source: cover of “Liberty” magazine, March 1998)

Subject: We’re off to a roaring start

We grew from 24,000 DC Downsizers to 25,000 in 176 days. Then we grew from 25,000 to 26,000 in just 59 days. Now, in just 8 days, part of which covers a holiday weekend, we’re already 50% of the way between 26,000 and 27,000. Incredible.

We’re also 36% of the way to exceeding the number of new people who registered to use our Educate the Powerful System in June, and nearly 18% of the way to exceeding the 43,290 messages we sent to Congress last month. Let’s keep pushing.

First, let’s “Thank or Spank” our House reps for their votes on the boondoggle cap and trade bill. Check how your rep voted here.

Then, send a message thanking your rep for voting against the cap and trade bill, or spanking him or her for voting for it. In that same message, tell your two Senators to vote against the bill. You can send your message at DownsizeDC.org’s “cap and trade” campaign page.

Here’s what I wrote to my representative and two Senators…

“I think the cap and trade legislation is bad policy. I’m disturbed that my representative, Ms. Sutton, voted for this boondoggle. Cap and trade hasn’t worked in Europe and it won’t work here either. There’s been virtually no change in CO2 levels in Europe. Instead, companies have lobbied successfully for exemptions, while the overall cost of the program has been passed to consumers who lack the power to lobby for protection. Cap and trade is just another political scam. I urge my Senators to vote against it.”

After you’ve sent YOUR personalized message, then, take an extra step. Let’s see how fast we can grow the Downsize DC Army to the next increment of 1,000.  The best way to help make this happen is by following our quick and easy instructions for personalized recruiting, which you can find here.

It’s also helpful to Digg the blog version of this Dispatch. Through Digg new people come to see DownsizeDC.org. Registration to Digg is simple, non-intrusive, and free. And once you’re registered, you can help spread the word about DownsizeDC.org with just one click. Please Digg at DownsizeDC.org

Thank you for being a part of the growing Downsize DC Army.
