What do you think of Obama’s tax proposals?

Quote of the Day: “If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street. If you try to sit I’ll tax your seat. If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat. If you take a walk I’ll tax your feet. ‘Cause I’m the taxman.” — George Harrison, from “Taxman,” by The Beatles, from their 1966 album “Revolver.”

Did your hear? President Obama has a plan for cutting federal spending by trillions of dollars. Here’s what he wants . . .

One dollar in tax increases for every three dollars in spending cuts. That’s right, tax increases are the key to spending cuts! And better yet (yes, I’m being sarcastic) most of these new taxes will come from those awful rich people who do so much harm to society. You know . . .

* The people who have been frugal with their money so they can fund businesses, create goods and services, and provide jobs.
* The people who endow and fund most of our charities
* The people who already pay most of the taxes in our society

But wait! Haven’t we been here before? Didn’t the old President Bush make exactly this kind of deal, back in the early 90s, after he said, “Read my lips, no new taxes”? Yes, he did.

* A recession followed,
* Bush lost his job,
* And the national debt just kept on growing.

Heeding that old proverb about “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me,” here’s the letter I sent to Congress to “celebrate” tax filing day:

I pay too much in taxes, and rich people pay WAY too much. For crying out loud, the top half percent of earners pay nearly a fourth of all taxes. http://mjperry.blogspot.com/2008/01/share-of-taxes-paid-by-rich-after-4-tax.html

To want more from them isn’t just greedy, it’s downright evil, and stupid besides. You act as if success was a crime. Something to be punished!

Even worse, I do NOT believe you would really use increased taxes to reduce the deficit.

You need to be aware of how little I trust you. I think Congress and the President are a lying pack of gangsters. I do not believe anything you tell me.

If you told me the sky was blue I would begin to doubt it.

Here’s something I DO believe — if you have more taxes you will simply spend all of it, and continue borrowing as much as you can on top of it.

This is what you’ve done before, and I see no reason to believe you’ll change.

The recent set of lies about your supposed budget cuts is only the latest reason I distrust you so much. This is why, to summarize, YOU MUST NOT RAISE TAXES!

Focus on my reasons . . .

* We all pay too much already, especially rich people
* Politicians are liars and cannot be trusted

Begin to earn my trust. CUT SPENDING! DO NOT RAISE TAXES! You feeling me?

END LETTER
