Let’s define our terms.
Big Government – A bloated, oppressive collective, led by a band of opportunists, and sustained through coercive force (see below). Big Government differs from just “plain old government” in going beyond the protection of people’s rights, to the direct violation of them.
Human Progress – Innovations that make our lives healthier and longer, more prosperous and fun. Items of Human Progress are the good news we’ll share on this website.
Coercive Force – This is what Big Government has to offer. The power to compel others to do things. But coercion rarely creates. It usually only destroys.
Voluntary Action – This is how things get done without coercive force. Whether it is people acting individually or as part of a willing association, whether seeking profit or extending love, voluntary action improves the world without coercion. (If it involves coercion then it isn’t voluntary.) Voluntary action does not destroy. It creates.
Downsize DC’s goal is Human Progress. Downsize DC’s opposition is Coercive Force, the key source of which is Big Government. Downsize DC’s key to Human Progress is more Voluntary Action through smaller government.
Voluntary Action leads to Human Progress. As DC Downsizers we believe, “Big Government hurts, but Voluntary Action leads to Human Progress.”
