An Assignment You Can Give Your Rep and Senators

Quote of the Day: “It is a popular delusion that the government wastes vast amounts of money through inefficiency and sloth. Enormous effort and elaborate planning are required to waste this much money.” – P.J. O'Rourke

There was yet another debt ceiling “deal” passed yesterday. Instead of increasing the amount of debt by a certain number, it says the ceiling is whatever the national debt will be on May 18.

Sounds silly, but it does have one advantage… a hard deadline to put the debt ceiling crisis to rest…

… by passing a balanced budget!

If you think that's a good idea, tell Congress using DownsizeDC.org's Cap the Debt Campaign.

The hardwired message says…

Do NOT raise the debt ceiling ever again.

You may borrow from or copy these personal comments…

This is being sent to my Representative and Senators,

Because you work for me, I have an assignment for you.

Pass a balanced budget by May 18 – the deadline of the debt ceiling deal.

That's 3 1/2 months away.

Focus on nothing else…

* Don't pass any non-urgent bill.
* No more non-binding “resolutions” and other wastes of your time.
* The Senate should delay any non-urgent hearings and debates on Presidential appointments.

This is a new Congress. Don't behave like Congresses of the past. I did NOT consent to how they behaved, and I do NOT consent if you behave the same way.

* Don't make our markets jittery over so-called “default.”
* Don't raise taxes on our children by increasing the national debt.
* Don't be afraid of spending cuts in ANY area. Remember…

Drastic cuts were made after World War II. The budget was quickly balanced. The economy boomed.

Over the next few weeks I will send letters telling you what you should do to achieve this.

END LETTER

You can send your letter using DownsizeDC.org's Educate the Powerful System.

A Downsize DC board member has issued a challenge. He'll give $1,500 to Downsize DC if we can generate $750 per month in new pledges. Pledgers give us the ability to plan ahead and tackle new projects. Please consider a monthly pledge right now.

In order to meet this month's obligations, one-time contributions are welcome as well. Details on how to give by check, with a major credit card, or via PayPal or Bitcoin is available here.

Contributions to DownsizeDC.org, to “educate” Congress, are NOT tax-deductible. If tax-deductibility is important to you, we encourage you to contribute to the Downsize DC Foundation, instead. The pledge match applies there as well.

Thank you for participating in our educational campaigns, and thanks to all who generously make our work possible.

Jim Babka
President
