Stop State Kidnapping

Congress passed the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act late in 2011. It contained the shameful Indefinite Detention (i.e., legalized kidnapping) provisions.

The Senate will soon consider the 2014 NDAA. That's the perfect time to call for the repeal of Indefinite Detention via DownsizeDC.org’s campaign.

The hardwired message says…

Repeal the detainee provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (Sections 1021 & 1022).

You may borrow from or copy the following sample comments…

The House had a chance to repeal them when it passed the 2014 NDAA earlier this year. I DEMAND that the Senate version and final bill contains their repeal.

These provisions authorize State kidnapping. Among them…

* Military detention of foreigners suspected of being terrorists is REQUIRED.
* Military detention is the preferred OPTION for American terror suspects.
* No charges need to be filed, and no trials must be held.
* Prisoners are to be held “until the end of hostilities.”

I know the House passed an amendment requiring habeas proceedings for U.S. suspects, but it DOESN’T require a subsequent trial.

And I DO NOT CONSENT!

State kidnapping does NOT make me safer from terrorists. Rather, they make me LESS safe from an out-of-control government. The number of innocents detained at Guantanamo Bay gives me NO comfort that only the “bad guys” will be swept up.

Moreover, this State kidnapping is unconstitutional and immoral. Or do you think it's wrong only when other countries do it?

Indefinite Detention is perhaps the strongest evidence that Congress doesn't know how to govern. Worse, it's evidence you don't know right from wrong.

Turn from this dark, destructive path. Repeal Indefinite Detention.
