Urgent Action Item!

Here’s today’s Downsizer-Dispatch . . .

We’ve got good news and bad news. Good news: Congress is only in session for two more days. Bad news: Congress likes to do bad things at the last minute. (Remember, they can do this because the “Read the Bills Act” with its 7-day waiting period is not yet the law of the land).

What bad might Congress do? It’s hard to tell. But one thing we’re worried about is . . . the anti-vitamin bill we told you about a week or so ago. Word has it that Congress might try to slip this one through while everyone is out Christmas shopping.

Remember, this bill would impose burdensome new regulations on vitamin makers, forcing them to file “adverse event reports” with the government every time any vitamin user has a health problem, even if there is no reason to think the illness is vitamin-related.

Who benefits? Traditional drug makers who don’t like the competition from nutritional supplements. The more people get sick because of inadequate nutrition, the more people will need synthetic drugs from Big Pharma. And if vitamin manufacturers are hurt by regulation the cost of vitamins will go up, fewer people will use them, more will get sick, and more will need Big Pharma drugs. You do the math.

The power to regulate is the power to destroy, and many regulations are simply corporate welfare by another name. We need to stop this destructive new regulation before it gets started. Tell Congress to go home without passing this bill. You can do so HERE.

Also, we are now just $200 away from having $6,000 in reliable monthly credit card pledges. Give the Downsizer movement a Christmas present by starting a monthly pledge. Help us reach this new milestone. You can do so HERE. Or, make a one-time donation to help us cover the roughly $8,200 we still need to raise this month. You can do so HERE.

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer.
