Another Urgent Action Item!

Today’s Downsizer-Dispatch . . .

The end is near for one of the most spendthrift, law-breaking Congresses in the history of the Republic. But they still have a little time left for mischief and there are yet more rumblings on the grapevine of last minute criminal activity in the works.

The “NSA Spying bill” seems unlikely to come to a vote — thanks in large part to you, the DC Downsizers. But the telecom industry is busy lobbying behind the scenes to win passage of at least one aspect of that bill — a provision against criminal prosecution for their involvement in the Bush administration’s illegal spying on American citizens.

It’s very important that this NOT happen. The telecom industry wants to be excused because they were “just following orders.” But a strong message needs to be sent that companies cannot receive a “get out of jail free card” just because it was the government that asked them to break the law.

Please send Congress a message asking them NOT to pass the “NSA Spying Bill.” Make sure you strongly object to any immunity for the telecom industry. You can do so HERE.

UPDATE: Our fundraising drive for monthly pledges inched forward yesterday. Four new people started new monthly credit card pledges worth $54 a month. That means we’re now just about $150 away from crossing the $6,000 milestone. You can join this effort for as little as $3 a month. Our current top pledge is $250, in case you feel inspired to become the new “Top Dog.” You can start a monthly pledge HERE, or make a one-time donation HERE.

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer.
