Why were Republicans willing to repeal Obamacare last year, but not now?

Rand Paul has a new bill that would actually repeal Obamacare. Retweet

Senator Paul has introduced a new bill to repeal Obamacare and we have a new campaign to support that bill.

Reminder: When you send your letter, you may have a Rep or Senator that is not [Support Rand Paul's Obamacare Repeal Act]current. Well, a new Downsize DC website is coming soon (details)! We believe we’ll be ready to beta test the site next week. So we’re not diverting money or time into updating our current software. But action cannot wait. Your letter will still be delivered to the other incumbents, so please send it.

The hardwired letter to Congress reads…

Sponsor Rand Paul’s Obamacare Repeal Act (S.554)

You can copy or edit this sample text for your personal letter to Congress…

The Republicans won in 2016 largely due to their repeated promises to repeal Obamacare. They passed bills to repeal Obamacare 50+ times, including in 2016, only to have President Obama veto them. S. 554 is the exact same bill the Republicans passed in 2016! If the Republicans were willing to pass it then, they should be even more willing to pass it now, when they actually have the power to cause the change their constituency craves.

Passing S. 554 will draw Obamacare and Obamacare-lite supporters to be more cooperative in crafting replacement policies. Strategically, the best candidate for that replacement is Rand Paul’s “Obamacare Replacement Act (S. 222).” That bill would restore huge chunks of the free market, thereby lowering insurance and healthcare costs while improving health outcomes. Congress should pass S. 554 and then S. 222. Anything less will constitute a betrayal of the voters who elected the current Republican majority.

— END OF SAMPLE LETTER–
