An ancient myth and a modern beast

Today’s subjects are an ancient myth and a modern beast. The beast appears below in conjunction with details about two media interviews, one of which you can hear on the Internet. But first, the ancient myth . . .

In ancient Greek mythology Sisyphus was condemned by the gods to push the same rock up the same hill for eternity. I’m SISYPHUS. My rock and hill is the $14,000 I must raise each month to keep Downsize DC in business. Fortunately . . .

The ever-increasing number of monthly pledgers we have is making this “rock and hill” smaller with each passing month. The more monthly pledgers we have the less additional money we have to raise each month. And when we reach $14,000-a-month great things happen.

* We start advertising and growing with high speed
* We launch the “One Subject at a Time Act”
* I, in my role as SISYPHUS, will be free of my rock and hill, and I won’t have to make so many funding appeals

Can you help FREE SISYPHUS?

We’ve made monthly credit card pledging super easy with micro-pledges. $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, or $9 is a great way to start. You can make your FREE SISYPHUS micro-pledge here.

Larger monthly credit card pledges do even more to FREE SISYPHUS faster. SISYPHUS greatly appreciates monthly credit card pledges of $10, $15, $25, $35, $50, $75, or $125 per month. You can make your FREE SISYPHUS macro-pledge here.

All monthly pledgers will be listed as Legislative Sponsors on the forthcoming webpage for our new “One Subject at a Time Act,” unless they choose not to be listed. If you don’t wan’t to start a monthly credit card pledge but do want to be listed on the roster, you can get your name there for a one-time gift of $76 or more. One-time donors are the people who keep us going until we reach our goal for monthly pledges. You can contribute here.

Legislative Sponsors are listed in order of contribution size, and pledgers have an advantage because we “annualize” their contributions. $10 per month counts as $120 for ranking. How high do you want to be on that list? Would you like the prominent John Hancock line?

I have it on good authority that SISYPHUS appreciates all of you very much!

I will be a guest on “Politics & Religion” with Irvin Baxter and Craig Treadwell today (9/18) at 4 PM Eastern (3 PM Central, 2 PM Mountain, 1 PM Pacific). The subject? The Mark of the Beast — no kidding. The hosts believe that the Real ID Act is the number without which no man can buy or sell described in Revelation 13:16-17.

Well, I think Big Government is certainly a “beast” and a dangerous one at that. Author Robert Higgs has made a career writing books about this beast he calls Leviathan. And the result of the Real ID Act is a national ID card without which you won’t be able to drive, board a plane or train, open a bank account or cash a check, buy cigarrettes, alcohol, or firearms, get a job, or vote.

I think this might be an interesting show. Perhaps we even have a new ally in the fight to repeal the Real ID Act?

To listen online, go to and follow the instructions there.

If you live in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, or Washington, or if you can listen via satellite or shortwave, you can check for a station in our area in the section at the bottom of the radio web page labeled “Find a Station.” Again, that link is

I was interviewed by John St. George for the Free Market News Network about the Read the Bills Act and The interview is now available at After you’ve listened, please Post Feedback.

Reminder… When we’ve arrived at the point that we have $14,000 per month in pledges, we’ll introduce our “One Subject at a Time Act.” We’re eager to reach both goals. We hope you are too!

Together, we can Downsize DC!
